Thinkpiece: Tales of the Present

I am sure I have a sane mind. Why? For the amount of anxiety that on it lies. What better proof of consciousness than to feel trapped in a vertigo state commuting around the city? Watching all those beings on the train, trying forcibly to ignore each other, having dreams of wealth and health, just for them, never to anyone else. A new wave of narcissism swept our society like a tsunami that no one saw coming.

“We stopped caring about achievements, or, we started to see achievements on things that literally have no purpose besides self-marketing/self-profit.”

And what is different about this new kind of narcissism? The stages on where it is performed. Never before humans had more ways to be individually idolized, and never before that idolization had less meaning. We stopped caring about achievements, or, we started to see achievements on things that literally have no purpose besides self-marketing/self-profit. You see, the old good narcissism (which still exists in older generations) was also about an individual feeling superior to all other individuals, feeling that his/her actions were more valuable than the actions of all others, but, there was a drive to actually have something to back that theory, normally those kind of narcissists got good on doing something, most of the times, in some kind of creative industry. So, it wasn’t all bad. They did indeed contribute to something. Although they are still very sick people, which suck the energy of those who are more close to them.

“People have been taught that they are special, that the world is theirs for the taking, that everything can be achieved overnight and that there’s no limit for what they can achieve.”

This new wave of narcissism has no correlation to achievements, in fact, it is based so much in fantasy that creates its own market and products. People have been taught that they are special, that the world is theirs for the taking, that everything can be achieved overnight and that there’s no limit for what they can achieve. A legion of “motivational coaches” has risen to maintain the masses in good spirit. But do they say to the people that we live in a limited world? That there is in fact a limit for what they can do? More so, do they remind them that it is absolutely impossible for everyone in this world to dream about having their own plane and private island?

“Ego is the ultimate market booster.”

Ego is the ultimate market booster. People become mere batteries for an economic system that is constantly looking for new and better energy sources. Humans are in fact turning obsolete. Our own civilization needs more than we can offer as human beings, and this new vague of narcissism is the last squeeze on the sponge. What comes after? What comes when all this armies of self-entitled braindead beings figure out that no one really cares about them and that the pedestals on which they put themselves are made of plastic, melting down on the scorching temperatures we have engulfed this planet on?

“Let us at least comfort the millions that never had a chance to speak out of fear, out of lack of bread, lack of love.”

I know, I’m not being totally fair, and with my speech I may sound a bit self-entitled myself. Who am I to judge the value of someone else? Well, I am not judging the value of every person on this world, I am saying they have misplaced that value, they are using it for something that is utterly wrong and destructive. I want people to actually realize their true value.
I want them to see that they are not just a part of this Universe, but the Universe itself trying to be understood.
If we are indeed doomed, and it is indeed too late for us to hope for a better future, let us at least acknowledge our mistakes as a whole. Let us at least comfort the millions that never had a chance to speak out of fear, out of lack of bread, lack of love. A better tomorrow may come, even if not many tomorrows are still left.

Yours,
Pedro
